Club Alpino Italiano, C.A.I. (Italian Alpine Club) is an association founded in Turin on October 23, 1863. As of today, with its 497 sections all over Italy and 315,000 members in addition to numerous non-member supporters, it is one of the most important associations of the country. The culture of the mountain in all its different forms (climbing, hiking, speleology, skiing) has been always promoted by C.A.I. to young and not so young audiences. C.A.I. has always transmitted values that have become increasingly important in Italy: security, protection of the mountain environment, landscape and biodiversity, attention to climate change. Club Alpino Italiano is also active in designing new hiking trails and mapping the existing ones all over Italy, managing shelters and camps, awareness raising communication and information activities focused on security.
